Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson who were both lawyers. After moving to Oxfordshire around the age of five, Emma was enrolled in the Dragon School. Emma chose to become an actor when she was six. Over the course of several years, she attended the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. She learned to sing as well as dancing, and also acting. At the age of 10, she had performed and taken the role of lead in a number of Stagecoach performances and school plays. Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone was the film of 2001 remake from J.K. Rowling's bestselling book was filmed in 1999. Emma was discovered by agents via the recommendation of her Oxford teacher. David Heyman, the producer of Harry Potter Harry Potter's Sorcerer's Stone as well as Ron Weasley told Emma after eight auditions that she had been selected for the roles. Emma was chosen to play alongside Daniel Radcliffe Rupert Grint and Rupert Grint. Emma's first appearance in a film was as a part of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the year 2001. It was also the biggest and most successful film in 2001. The first Saturday and Sunday revenues were record-breaking. Reviewers praised the film, as did its performances by the three acclaimed young actors. The Daily Telegraph, an important British newspaper, praised Emma's portrayal "amazing". Afterward, Emma was shortlisted for five awards for her role in the film winning The Young Artist Award for Leading Actress of a Younger in a Feature Film.
